DESCRIPTION

New for 2019 La Corsa is branching out and venturing south into the neighbouring region of Perugia. The home of Baci chocolates and some of the best wine country Italy has to offer.

Having lived in Tuscany for over a decade I have made friends from literally all over Italy. Often these friends have invited me to their part of the world and have talked about the attractions with such an enthusiasm that it more than wet my appetite. One of these friends was Giorgio and he happens to have a beautiful villa just outside the stunning hilltop town of Montefalco. Having finally made the trip down to see him we immediately knew that we had to set up a bike tour in this part of the world. Once known as Tuscany‘s little sister, Umbria has more than escaped the shadow becoming every bit as celebrated as its more famous neighbour.

Day 1

MONTEFALCO

FRIDAY, 14TH JUNE 2019
DISTANCE: 32KM ELEVATION: 600M

Breakfast in the villa. Departure by bike 09.00.Our first ride will be a nice easy day and a big welcome to Umbria. A 32km loop taking in the beautiful hill top towns of Trevi and Montefalco. This will give you a great chance to get acquainted to your full carbon De Rosa bike with Campagnolo gears and wheels. Typically Montefalco is a great spot for a coffee and will also be one of the locations we will use for one of our evening meals. On returning to our new home for the week a lunch will be prepared for us at the villa making life very stress free. Just like all our other tours, your cycling kit will be washed after the ride and returned to you for the next day. Each Evening we will venture out to one of the nearby towns to sample the cuisine which is very much on a par with anything that Tuscany can throw it.

MONTEFALCO-SAN TERENZIANO

SATURDAY, 15TH JUNE 2019
DISTANCE: 77KM ELEVATION: 1000M

Having become very familiar with your new steed for the week its time to venture a little

further and earn that fine cuisine. The terrain is not dissimilar to that of our base in the Chianti region of Tuscany where literally nothing is flat. On this ride we are simply rolling up and down all day accumulating over a 1000min 77.5km without ever climbing higher than 400m.We start by skirting round the small but very endearing town of Bevagna, {fear not we shall return here also for an evening meal and have a chance to look around}.

From here the road snakes its way between the local vine yards, producing the sagrantino di Montefalco, a grape only really found in this part of the world and one you will search for for years to come. After passing through Ponte di Ferro we will start a long gradual climb running 8km at 3.5%to reach our coffee stop in the little town of San Terenziano. After a coffee and a snack we continue the“mangia e beve” (up and down) passing lots of small villages along the way eventually comeback through Montefalco on our return back to the villa. After a shower and a stretch we will have another fantastic Umbrian lunch prepared for us at the villa.

After a little relax we will venture out for another meal and have a chance to visit one ofthe many stunning hilltop towns which surrounds the area where we stay.

Day 2

MOUNT SUBASIO-ASSISI

SUNDAY, 16TH JUNE 2019
DISTANCE: 122KM ELEVATION: 1200M

A trip to Umbria without visiting Assisi isn’t really a trip to Umbria and we try to pass around and through this majestic little hill top town a few times on our rides. Today is a long but very panoramic day offering great reward for the meters climbed and has us making our way round Mount Subasio from Assisi. At 122km it’s the longest day on the bike and will require each rider to make sure they take care of their calorie intake to leave enough fuel to make it back to the villa. With the La Corsa van in tow if you do run out of beans its never the end of the world and a taxi fare can be discussed with the driver (wink wink)

Carbs are going to be everyones best friend when we get back to the villa and we will have a chance to replace all the calories we have burned. An afternoon at one of the local wineries is in store to taste the fabulous and well renowned Sagrantino which is up there as one of our favourite Italian wines which you will hopefully like to.

Day 3
