THE DOLOMITES

Price range: €2,400.00 through €2,800.00

2nd August 2024 - 7th August 2024

The Dolomites is arguably the most iconic cycling destination in the world, boasting a stunning array of mountain passes and a rich racing history that nowhere else can compete with.

Its appeal goes far beyond the bike, though, with climbers and skiers coming from around the globe to explore and test themselves against these iconic mountains.

The landscape here is dominated by the mountain range’s 18 major peaks, and dramatic, sheer cliff faces are contrasted with lush, sheltered valleys. The region is also home to a plethora of cosy mountain refuges and quaint little towns, meaning a mid-ride coffee stop is never too far away.

This tour is an epic voyage, rising up through the high mountains before descending to the charming city of Treviso, right in the heart of Veneto’s Prosecco region.

Along the way, we’ll take on many of the famous passes used in the Giro D’Italia, and there’ll also be plenty of attention given to the region’s excellent food and wine!

THE DOLOMITES - Weekend Overview

Day By Day Breakdown

1: Trento to Bolzano

We’ll kick off this Alpine adventure with a gentle spin connecting two of the region’s beautiful towns, Trento and Bolzano. Most of the day will be climbing, but at an almost imperceptible rate and in total we’ll gain just 360m of altitude in around 65km of riding. The majority of this route is on a cycle track that follows the banks of the Adige river, meaning there’ll be plenty of time to chat with your fellow travellers and enjoy the wonderful scenery.

2: Passo Pordoi

This ride brings us from Bolzano to Arabba, and the while the star of this day is undoubtedly the Passo Pordoi, the lesser known Passo Nigra is no less of a challenge and is appreciated by those in the know as one of the region’s many hidden gems. It will definitely test your legs, but remember that’s there’s over 2,800m total elevation gain on this route so don’t go too hard early on. Once the Nigra has been dealt with, the Pordoi awaits, with views of the iconic Marmolada and history at every turn. It was here, after all, where the legendary rivalry between Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali began, and with 40 appearances in the Giro d’Italia, this is a climb with plenty more stories to tell.

3: SELLA RONDA

This legendary route circles the Sella massif and its four mountain passes. You’ll experience a mix of challenging ascents and thrilling descents, with iconic views of jagged peaks and charming alpine villages. We’ll ride all four passes of the Sella: The Campolongo, Gardena, Sella, and Pordoi, but don’t be overly daunted by the challenge because as well as being a selection of the region’s most beautiful climbs, they’re also some of the most accessible. Of course, that also means that anyone with the legs can really push themselves.

4: Selva di Cadore

This route passes through a part of the Dolomites known as the Fanes, and we’ll begin as we mean to go on, with some spectacular views of Alpine forests and distant, snowy peaks. With just over 2,000m of elevation gain in around 110km, this is a day for measured efforts, with two lengthy climbs to deal with on a route that’s undulating throughout, as we explore the little known area of Agordina in the Val Biois, just beneath the famous peaks of the Marmolada.

5. Belluno to Treviso

The final ride of this epic Dolomites adventure takes us out of the high mountains and towards the verdant hills around Treviso. After an easy opening stretch, we’ll take on the day’s main climb, which is just shy of 10km long at an average of 6%, snaking through the Val Belluna on quiet roads. Following that, there’ll be a chance to sharpen your downhill skills, and you’ll need to because after climbing the back side of it, we’ll descend the iconic, twisting, tunnelled slopes of the Passo San Boldo! There’s no better way to say goodbye to the Dolomites and hello to the Veneto.
